Cleburne County girls, Clay Central win Tri-County Tournament titles; Glencoe falls in Etowah County girls final

HEFLIN – Chelsea Parker scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half, Olivia McDaniel scored all 10 of her points in the second half as Cleburne County came from behind to beat Ranburne 51-42 to win its first Tri-County Tournament girls title since 2014.
The Lady Tigers were down 12-7 in the first quarter and 24-19 at the half, but erupted for 16 point in the third quarter.
Cleburne County earned a spot in the championship game with a 57-32 win in opening day over Clay Central. Micha Pentacost had all 10 of her points in the second quarter as the Lady Tigers pulled away. In the other game, Ranburne defeated Clay Central, 73-45
The Lady Tigers pulled it off with a lineup that includes three seniors, six freshmen and three eighth-graders.
“I’m happy for my team,” Lady Tigers coach Todd Gable said. “We’re young and we get better every day. These were great Tiger victories.”
Clay Central won the boys bracket, defeating Ranburne and Cleburne County.
Lady Jackets fall in Etowah Co. final
HOKES BLUFF – Lauren Hunt scored 11 of her 22 points in a 15-0 run that carried Southside past Glencoe 56-45 for the Etowah County Girls Tournament championship. Glencoe was up three late in the third quarter before Southside broke off its decisive run.
