Defending champion Oxford reaches 6A semifinals of State Duals Tournament

SPANISH FORT – Defending champion Oxford got pins from Landon Burrage and Jakob Chisolm late in the match to come from behind and beat Benjamin Russell in the Class 6A State Duals quarterfinals Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets will now host McAdory for a return trip to the state finals. The winner faces the winner of Clay-Chalkville and Gardendale 6 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Bill Harris Arena.
With the match tied at 22, Burrage (120) scored a pin over Nyshad Hannon in 4:58 and Chisolm (126) followed with a pin of Peyton Young in 1:09. Reed Hill (138) needed to not have gotten pinned in the final match of the day to seal it and he capped it with a 7-2 victory.
