Webb’s first-period pin at 285 gives Yellow Jackets their second straight State Duals championship
Reed Hill gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead in the State Duals title match.

BIRMINGHAM – Oxford coach Matt Hicks expected a dogfight and it was every bit of one.
Clay Webb scored a first-period pin in the final bout of the match to give Oxford its second Class 6A State Duals wrestling championship in the history of the event Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets edged Gardendale 30-23 when Webb, the undefeated junior at 285, pinned Dawson Cato in 50 seconds. The Jackets beat Southside-Gadsden to win the inaugural title last year.
It was an intense match with both teams losing team points for conduct.
Reed Hill gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead with a decision at 138. It was tied again at 11, then Carson Lindsey gave the Jackets the lead for good with a major decision at 152.
Matt King’s decision at 160 gave Oxford an 18-11 lead and then the Yellow Jackets held on.
Gardendale won the next two matches to close to 18-17. When Matthew Muncher won by forfeit at 195, the Jackets had a seven-point lead and a win by Kobe Shumaker at 220 would clinch the match.
But Shumaker was pinned with 48 seconds left in his match, setting the stage for the winner-take-all dramatic at the finish.
Webb made quick work of Cato and the Yellow Jackets had their title.
Cleburne County will go for the 1A-5A title here Saturday against Arab.
