OXFORD – Mac Parris tied the Pleasant Valley softball career home run record Friday when she blasted a pair of two-run homers in the Lady Raiders’ 11-0 win over Munford in Randolph County’s Lady Tiger Classic at Oxford Lake.
Parris’ blasts left her with 27 for her career, tying her with Kara Perry for the school’s all-time record. Parris owns or is threatening many of the offensive records on the Lady Raiders’ career list.
The senior third baseman went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the game. She had a two-run first-inning double in the 5-2 victory over Ranburne that followed.
The Lady Raiders (26-13) are the No. 1 seed in the single elimination portion of the tournament Saturday. They open against the Horseshoe Bend-Wadley winner.
OXFORD WINS: Ashleigh Reaves’ one-out RBI single started a three-run sixth inning rally that broke a 6-6 tie and lifted Oxford to a 9-6 victory over Moody. Before the inning was over, Emma Stephens drove in a run with a bases-loaded hit by pitch and Sarah Howell smacked an RBI single.
Howell went 5-for-5 in the game. Emily Thrasher was 3-for-3 and Ashlyn Miller went 3-for-4.
UP AND OVER: White Plains senior Matthew Moore matched his personal best Friday with a vault of 14-0 during the pole vault competition for Saturday’s tri-meet among Ohatchee, White Plains and Pleasant Valley at Jacksonville State.
The pole vault competition was held at Ohatchee because the pit at JSU was damaged in last month’s tornado that tore through the campus. Moore made three attempts at 14-1 after clearing the bar at 14.
