Hillman, Hutto play for state singles titles; Donoho boys sixth, Oxford, Jacksonville finish 10th

DECATUR – Donoho played for state titles in two singles flights Tuesday and the Lady Falcons finished third overall in the Class 1A-3A State Tennis Championships at Point Mallard.
The Lady Falcons scored 22 points and finished behind champion Bayside Academy (62) and runnerup Montgomery Academy (46). Bayside ended the Lady Eagles’ run of seventh straight state titles.
Claire Hillman lost in the No. 2 singles finals 6-3, 6-3 to Bayside’s Evelyn Prickett. Virginia Hutto lost in the No. 3 singles finals 6-1, 6-2 to Jenna Chandler of Montgomery Academy.
The Donoho boys finished sixth in their 1A-3A Championships. Houston Academy won it.
In the other state championships, Jacksonville finished 10th in 4A-5A boys at the Mobile Tennis Center and Oxford finished 10t in 6A boys at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
