JACKSONVILLE – Quin Wilson scored 19 points, all in the final three quarters, as White Plains staged a furious game-long comeback and eventually took down Jacksonville 47-44 to bounce back from a tough overnight loss the night before and claim an area victory.
Wilson hit seven of 12 shots from the field, including a 3-pointer in the third quarter, and all four of his free throws. He was the only White Plains player to score in double figures.
“Quin just had a determined look in his eye,” Wildcats coach Chris Randall said. “It was just like he refused to lose. He wasn’t taking no for an answer.”
It took until 40 seconds remained in the first quarter before the Wildcats finally got on the board, and by then they were down 13-2. They didn’t take their first lead until less than a minute remained on a Brody Baker basket off pass from Wilson.
It was 20-4 two minutes into the second quarter when Randall called his third time out and put in a goal to reach 20 by halftime. They got close, drawing within 24-16 at the break, and cut their deficit to 35-33 going into the fourth quarter.
Wilson converted two game-tying three point plays in the fourth before the Wildcats, who lost to Piedmont in overtime Monday, eventually took the lead.
“This was a huge toughness win for our kids,” Randall said. “Our depth played a key role and I couldn’t be prouder of the boys.”
Jay Davis was Jacksonville’s leading scorer with 11 points. Donavon McCain had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
