Sylacauga, Childersburg girls win titles in Talladega County Tournament

CHILDERSBURG – The Childersburg girls and Sylacauga boys won their respective titles in the Talladega County Tournament Saturday night.
Childersburg opened the championship doubleheader with a 63-35 rout of Talladega County Central.
In the nightcap, Sylacauga used big fourth quarter to come from behind to defeat Talladega 72-67 for the boys crown and snap the Tigers’ 14-game winning streak in the process.
Girls MVP KeAsia McKinney scored 21 points to lead Childersburg. McKinney scored seven and Jailah Swain scored 10 in a 25-point second quarter that gave the Lady Tigers a 38-18 halftime lead.
In the boys game, Sylacauga used a 20-10 fourth quarter to overcome a five-point deficit against Talladega. The Aggies were 7-of-12 from the free throw line in the quarter.
Desmon Jones led all scorers with 19 points. Max Jackson hit five of his six 3s in the first half and had 18.
The Aggies hit six of their 10 3-pointers in the first quarter to grab a 28-21 lead, but Talladega brought it back over the next two quarters.
Rontavious Barclay led Talladega with 16 points and seven rebounds. Kobe Simmons had 14 points and six boards, while D’Corian Wilson added 12 points.
