JACKSONVILLE –
Alexandria Orr made the key shot when R.A. Hubbard beat Spring Garden with virtually no time on the clock in the 2017 state title game at the BJCC. She made no shots Thursday.
 
The Lady Panthers held Orr scoreless in the Class 1A Northeast Regionals and beat R.A. Hubbard 49-38 to gain a spot in the regional finals. They will play Skyline, a 59-47 winner over Talladega County Central.
 
Spring Garden took control of the game by holding Hubbard scoreless in a 14-0 third quarter, part of a drought that lasted nearly 10 and a half minutes in total. Hubbard was 0-for-7 from the floor and committed seven turnovers in the third quarter.
 
Macy Reedy led the Lady Panthers with 18 points. A.J. Broome had 11. Payton McGinnis had six points and eight rebounds. Neely Welsh had seven points and seven boards. Madison Jennings came off the bench to hit all three of her field goal attempts and score seven points.
 
In the Class 1A boys semifinals, Lindsay Lane’s Tommy Murr, the nation’s leading scorer, went for 52 points, but Spring Garden got big games from Weston Kirk and Isaiah Sanchez and prevailed 91-65. The Panthers will play Skyline, a 47-44 winner over Winterboro.
 
Sanchez scored 31 points, shooting 13-of-19 from the field. Kirk scored 25 points, shooting 10-of-17, and grabbed 12 rebounds. Luke Welsh had 13 points and eight rebounds.
 
Murr, who came into the game averaging 44.8 ppg, put on a prolific show. He went 19-of-40 from the floor, 8-of-15 from 3-point range. The rest of the team was 4-of-26, 2-of-21 from 3-point range.
