GULF SHORES – Bailey Harris’ two-run homer highlighted a five-run inning and Cortney Williams scored what proved to be the winning run on Rylee Haynes’ infield grounder in the third sending Pleasant Valley on its way to a 6-5 victory over Northview in the Gulf Coast Classic III Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders also defeated Stanhope Elmore 7-1. Lindsey Pritchett went 3-for-3 to lead PV’s nine-hit attack in that game, Savannah Williams had three RBIs and Ava Boozer and Cortney Williams were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Lady Raiders came out of pool play seeded 20thfor Wednesday’s start of the single-loss round. Hayden, Pisgah and Good Hope are the top three seeds.
Meanwhile, Alexandria got a couple strong pitching performances to beat Enterprise (3-1) and Charles Henderson (9-0). Lanie Dreyer and Maggie Phillips both pitched one-hit complete games.
The Lady Cubs go into Wednesday’s knockout round opener against Demopolis seeded 24th.
The only hit Dreyer allowed in the Charles Henderson game was a two-out single in the second inning. She struck out five. Mattie Wade and Phillips both homered for the Lady Cubs Wade, Phillips, Dreyer and Logan Irwin all had two hits.
The only hit Phillips allowed in the Enterprise game was a one-out bunt single in the first. She struck out 10.
