SAN ANTONIO – Jacob LeCroy’s first college tournament didn’t start well, but it couldn’t have ended any better.
The South Alabama freshman from Donoho went bogey-double on the first two holes of his collegiate career, but he birdied his last hole of regulation and parred his hole in a three-team playoff Tuesday to help the Jaguars win the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational.
LeCroy, who qualified as the Jags’ No. 2 player but played No. 3 because he was a freshman, finished tied for 10th individual with rounds of 76-72-71 on the same 7,400-yard San Antonio course they play the PGA Tour’s Valero Open. They used the Sunday Valero pin placements Tuesday.
LeCroy had five birdies Tuesday in his first collegiate round under-par and 11 in the tournament.
The Jags won the team playoff over UT-Arlington and Houston by one shot. They had three pars and two birdies.
