Randolph County routs Midfield 44-8, all four Class 3A Region 6 teams advance to second round of playoffs

WEDOWEE – Randolph County used a big first-half surge to advance to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs after defeating Midfield 44-8 Friday.
 
“We scored nearly every time we touched the ball,” Randolph County coach Pat Prestridge said.
 
The third-ranked Tigers (10-1) controlled every aspect of the game against the Patriots (6-4). Offensively, they scored early and often, finding the end zone on six of their seven possessions in the first half. The Tigers’ sole mistake in the first half came on a fumble just four yards from the end zone on the second possession.
 
“We’ve got to do a better job protecting the ball,” Prestridge said.
 
Dante Jordan had 105 yards on the ground on just seven carries and a touchdown. Four other Tigers also found pay dirt running the ball.
 
Defensively, the Patriots were held to minus-32 yards on the ground and 34 yards of total offense. The Patriots lone touchdown of the game came on a 35-yard drive on their second possession.
 
“That defensive front of ours is really stout,” said Prestridge.
 
Randolph County travels to Westminster Christian for the second round.
 
“They are going to pass the ball more,” Prestridge said. “We watched the film on them playing Piedmont last year in the semis. They’ve got some athletes that returned back from last year.”
 
All four teams from Randolph County’s Region 6 made it through to the second round. The Tigers were joined by Piedmont, Wellborn and B.B. Comer.
