Anniston basketball coach Torry Brown has seen Malcolm Harvey throw it down with authority a lot in practice, but even the player admitted he had been a little restrained during games.

Well, not on Monday night.

With everyone still settling into their seats, the Bulldogs’ long 6-foot-5 forward took a pass from Antonio Kite and slammed it through with his back to the basket. Not that Anniston needed the help, but the slam sparked a big first quarter that propelled it to a 77-35 rout of Saks.

The dunk came early in the game so it wasn’t something in show-out time, but it did show the power and ability Harvey can bring to the Bulldogs when he commits himself.

“When I first looked at it I was like I’ve got to do something special,” Harvey said. “I’ve been doing something basic all year so I just tried to execute the thing I always try to do in practice.”

There wasn’t too much the Bulldogs didn’t get right in this one. They led 21-7 after the first quarter and 45-11 at halftime. It was one of those things where a different player did the damage each quarter. Kite scored 14 of his game-high 24 in the first quarter. It was Troy Hall’s in the second with 10 of his 16 off the bench (Kite had 10, too). It was Kwame Milton with 10 of his 17 in the third, and Hall with his remaining six in the running-clock fourth.

“It was one of those two or three games, honestly, you have during the year where everything you throw up just goes in,” Brown said.

Harvey was active on the other end of the floor, too. He blocked five shots in the first half, but it was the dunk that had everyone buzzing.

“That was … a wild dunk … wow,” Brown said. “He’s done that all year for us. He’s blocked shots in the lane. He’s finished up top with dunks or put backs. So, he’s done that all year for us. That was just another one of those plays that are pretty explosive, but he’s capable of doing that.”

Saks coach Jonathan Miller, meanwhile, was disappointed with the way his team played. The Wildcats were as close as 11-7 midway through the first quarter, then Kite scored eight of the next 10 points and the Bulldogs pulled away. Miller called it “a good wakeup call” for his team.

“I’ll just say we’re a little better than we played tonight,” he said.

White Plains 81, Ranburne 51: Quin Wilson hit five of six shots from the floor, including four 3-pointers, scored 14 points and had no turnovers in helping the Wildcats get back on the winning track after they dropped two last-minute heartbreakers in Chattanooga before Thanksgiving.

Wilson hit two of his 3-pointers and scored eight points in a 28-point second quarter that gave White Plains a 20-point halftime lead. He hit two more in the third. Walker O’Steen also had 14 points for the Wildcats.

Jacksonville 60, Munford 56: John Broom scored a game-high 16 points and Donavon McCain had 13 points and 14 rebounds as the Golden Eagles continue to win games with a roster largely of JV players while the majority of their varsity lineup remains with football.

Jacksonville opened an early lead, but Munford rallied to tie it in the third before the Golden Eagles pulled away and held off the Lions in the fourth. Dwight Moore led Munford with 14 points and seven rebounds.Story posting soon.

Ashville 56, Ohatchee 53: Briley Hale led Ohatchee with 18 points. Trey Pesnell had 13.
