TALLADEGA –You knew it was going to be Anniston’s night when Allasha Dudley nailed four straight 3-pointers early in the first quarter.
Dudley hit five 3-pointers – all in the first half – and the Lady Bulldogs hit a season-high 14 from behind the arc in the game on the way to a 61-13 rout of Talladega Tuesday night. The 14 were twice as a many 3s as the Lady Bulldogs hit in their last game against Lincoln and more than in their last three games combined. Five players hit at least two.
“We shoot like we practice,” Anniston coach Eddie Bullock said. “We’re just trying to get better for down the road, that’s all it is. We’re trying to play, no matter what the team is, this is the way we’ve played all year. We did the same thing against Hoover, against Spain Park.
“We spend a lot of time on shooting and we spend a lot of time working on defense. You’ve got to be able to stop people and you’ve got to be able to make shots.”
Dudley hit the four in a row right after Talladega tied the game 2-2. It was part of a broader 26-2 run that carried the Lady Bulldogs (3-2) to a 43-5 halftime lead. They hit 10 3s in the first half.
Dudley, who now has 16 treys in five games, actually hit five of her first six from behind the arc Tuesday and finished with 17 points. Anna Garrett hit three 3-pointers and had 12 points.
“She’s shooting it well; she’s taking the shots we want her to take,” Bullock said. “I really didn’t pay a whole lot attention to it. I was trying to make sure we executed, get to the spot and move the ball like we need to get the shots we needed.
“I’m trying to get more people involved. What teams are trying to do is load up on Allasha. I’ve got some other girls who can really shoot it but they have confidence.”

The Lady Jackets jumped out to a 6-2 lead and got five points from McGrue, but the Lady Rebels clawed out a two-point lead by the end of the quarter.
The tough defense extended into the second quarter. Vestavia pulled out to an 18-13 lead, but McLeod and Montgomery drilled home a couple of baskets to chop the lead to a point. The Lady Rebels got the last three points of the half to take a four-point lead into the dressing room. – Brant Locklier
