HEFLIN – Kobe Simmons scored 21 points and three other Tigers scored in double figures as Talladega doubled up Cleburne County 80-40 Thursday to start the new year on a positive note and remain in control of Class 4A Area 9.
The defending 4A state champions are undefeated in area play (4-0) and hold a two-game lead on Anniston and a 2.5-game lead on Lincoln. They play both challengers more time one and could clinch the No. 1 seed for the area tournament Tuesday at Anniston. Anniston could close the gap Friday when it plays Lincoln at home.
In addition to Simmons’ 21 points, Rontavious Barclay and Jay Spratling both had 11 and D’Corian Wilson had 10. Arron Green recorded nine rebounds and seven assists.
Ben Casey led Cleburne County with 21 points.
