ANNISTON – Eddie Bullock saw something he didn’t like early in Anniston’s game with Talladega Tuesday night and he wasn’t going to let it grow into a problem.

The Lady Bulldogs coach called time out about two minutes into the game to let the players on the floor know he didn’t like them standing around. They went back onto the floor, took their defense up a notch or three, forced turnovers on the next five possessions and roared to a 77-35 win that moved them closer to yet another Class 4A Area 9 title.

“We’re trying to get ready because when we get in the regional play and all that you’re not going to be able to make any mistake like that,” Bullock said. “We worked on defense for about four days straight and really didn’t even touch a ball as far as offense. We were trying to get them ready to play defense and they went out there and went back to work. What we don’t want them doing is standing around.”

After that timeout early in the game the Lady Bulldogs (12-3) forced 24 turnovers the rest of the half. They scored 35 points off those turnovers on the way to a 61-18 halftime lead.

Once the Lady Bulldogs got going, all eyes turned to shooter Allasha Dudley. The junior, who’s learning to be more of a combo guard this season, an experience that will serve her well down the road, hit seven 3-pointers in the final 10:31 of the first half. She was 7-of-12 from behind the arc in the half.

“I’m teaching her to be a combo guard because my point guard is out right now,” Bullock said. “When she comes back Allasha will have that experience of playing on the ball and off the ball. She’s been unstoppable off the ball, but she’s playing on the ball some now and we’re having to do some things different for her.”

Dudley finished with 29 points. Asia Barclay had 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Kiana Montgomery had 10 points.
