Defending champion Oxford and Ranburne will heading to AHSAA State Duals championship matches after winning semifinal matches Tuesday night.
Oxford overtook Wetumpka 53-25 and will meet Gardendale for the Class 6A title Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Ranburne edged Saint James 42-36 and will vie for the Class 1A-5A crown against Arab, a 42-22 winner over Alexandria.
“It feels just as sweet as the first time I made it to the finals with the team,” Oxford 160 Reed Hill said. “Nothing’s changed since the first time. We just went in there and stuck to our game plan and took care of business.”
Oxford coach Kyle Routon described the match as a “tough one.” The Yellow Jackets won nine matches in punching its ticket to the title match. Kobe Shumaker clinched it with his pin at heavyweight.
Ranburne lost the first two bouts in its match, then scored pins in each of the next six matches.
Arab handed Alexandria its first dual match loss of the season.
