Bears shoot down Saks

Defending state champion Plainview hits 15 3-pointers against Saks’ zone, drop Wildcats to get back to Northeast Regional

RAINSVILLE – Plainview hit 15 3-pointers over Saks’ zone, scoring almost as many points from behind the arc as Saks had in the game, and took a 76-46 victory over the Wildcats to advance to the Class 3A Northeast Regional.
Six players hit shots from behind the arc for the Bears. Grant Sanders hit five for his 15 points and Tristan Willingham had four on the way to 14 points.
The Wildcats fell behind 16-8 in the first quarter under a barrage of four 3-pointers but made a run at the Bears with 21 points in the second to go into halftime down 41-29. Kyle Goedde had eight points in the quarter for Saks and Tyler Smith had six.
But the Wildcats scored only 17 points in the second half and Plainview continued to pour it on from outside.
Zay Elston led Saks with 11 points. Goedde had 10.
