Cleburne County sweeps way to Munford Tournament title

Jayci Boozer spun a four-hit, four-inning shutout with nine strikeouts and Kendall Houston hit a pair of RBI doubles to lift Cleburne County over Randolph County 11-0 in the championship game of Munford’s softball tournament Saturday.
Houston was 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the game. Kaley Leggett and Sarah Hunt both had two hits and two RBIs.
The Lady Tigers also beat Leeds (3-2), Randolph County (9-2) and Munford (12-7) on the way to the championship.
Boozer pitched in all four games, starting against Leeds and in the championship game. In 12 2/3 innings, she gave up 11 hits and struck out 23. Houston was 7-for-10 in the tournament with four doubles, a homer and nine RBIs.
In the Munford game, Boozer went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Leggett went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Houston had a two-run double in their seven-run fourth.
In the first game against Randolph County, Houston hit a two-run homer to kick off their six-run third. Boozer and Kaley Harris both had two hits.
Their toughest test was against Leeds. They scored twice in the first on back-to-back doubles by Kaylee Shierling and Karley Boyd and Houston’s daring steal of home. Houston doubled home what proved to be the winning run in the third.
In other games …
Piedmont 8, Ashville 7: Maddy Byers went 3-for-3 and singled home the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the third. Emma Grace Todd broke a 1-1 tie with a bases-loaded triple in the second and Armoni Perry extended the lead later in the inning with a two-run homer.
Lincoln 7, Piedmont 4: Byers had two hits and Grace Epperson hit a solo homer in the first inning.
