Okins’ 71 leads White Plains to third-place finish at Twin Bridges; includes softball scores

GADSDEN – Kenny Okins shot 71 and won a scorecard playoff for fourth individually leading the White Plains boys golf team to a third-place finish in the Twin Bridges Kickoff Classic.
The Wildcats shot 299 as a team and finished behind winner Hartselle (292) and Guntersville (296). They also counted 73 from Wesley Jenkins, 76 from Gage Miller and 79 from Andrew Miller.
Oxford finished fifth, led by Jake Munroe’s 75 and Nic Boyd’s 76. White Plains’ second entry finished eighth, led by Sawyer Edwards’ 81.
Guntersville’s John Bruce defeated Paul Bruce on the second hole of sudden death to win medalist honors. They shot 66 in regulation.

HANCEVILLE – Pleasant Valley went 1-2-1 and lost to Mortimer Jordan 7-1 in the silver bracket semifinals of the Wallace State tournament.
The Lady Raiders shut out Cullman 4-0 for its victory, tied Carbon Hill 1-1, and lost to Rogers 4-0.
Leah Patterson threw one-hitters in five-inning games with Cullman and Carbon Hill. She struck out 13 against Cullman and 11 against Carbon Hill. She also went 3-for-10 at the plate with a home run, double and two RBIs.
Bailey Harris went 4-for-10 with a homer and Ava Boozer went 4-for-9 with two doubles and two RBIs. Rylee Haynes, Madison Cromer and Chandler Dorsett all had three hits in the tournament.
