Wright throws 3 TD passes, Alexandria passes for 182 yards, Valley Cubs move within one of 600 victories

CENTER POINT – For a team with a reputation of not throwing it much, Alexandria sure had a lot of success with it in its region opener.

Wesley Wright threw for three touchdowns, Javais McGhee threw for another and together they combined for 182 passing yards as the Valley Cubs rolled over Center Point, 52-28. The two quarterbacks were a combined 5-of-7 on their pass attempts.

Wright was responsible for four total touchdowns in the game and McGhee for two. Antonio Ross caught two touchdown passes and ran for another score. Ronnie Royal rushed for 100 yards.

The win was Alexandria’s 599th all-time. The Valley Cubs could become the 23rd team in Alabama (and first in Calhoun County) to reach the 600 milestone next week at St. Clair County, a team they are 8-1 against all-time.

The Valley Cubs scored 52 points for the second game in a row. It’s first time they’ve scored at least 50 in back-to-back games since putting 66 and 56 on Crossville and Cleburne County Sept. 21-28, 2018.

Center Point’s Tony Bruce rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns.
