Collins scores second hole-in-one in eight days at Pine Hill
By East Alabama Sports Today
Bruce Collins has played golf for 17 years without making a hole-in-one. He’s made two in the last eight days.
Collins aced the par-4 tenth at Pine Hill Country Club Wednesday. The hole played 223 yards and he used a driver. He saw the ball clear the water hazard that guards the green, but wasn’t sure its fate after that.
“We were playing the guys behind us,” Collins explained. “Ralph (Carter) and David (Curvin) laid up and I said I was going to hit my driver because if I hit it good we could be putting for eagle. I’ve been hitting my driver pretty good and felt I could get it over.
“I hit it right towards the pin. I saw the ball when it crossed the water and told them I’m either in the hole or a little long. We got up there, I walked on the green and didn’t see it back there, then I walked to the hole and there it was.”
Last Tuesday the 60-year-old Munford resident scored his first-ever hole-in-one, jarring a pitching wedge from 115 yards on the par-3 16th. Carter and Curvin were there for that one, too.
“That’s crazy; I’m still in awe by it,” Collins said. “I started (playing golf) in ’03 and hadn’t made one and now I’ve gotten two in a week. But I’ve been playing more and Ralph has helped me a lot.”
