OXFORD – Two days after being approved to oversee the operation of Cider Ridge Golf Club, Cory Etter has made the first major hire to his team.
Jammie Lett, the director of instruction at Hoover Country Club, will come aboard as the new director of golf/general manager of the Oxford course.
“Jammie’s super, super knowledgeable of the game, been around it a long time; he’s a very good instructor and a really good manager,” Etter said. “I think he’ll be one of our main keys to success out there. He’ll be really, really good as far as us making the next steps.”
The Oxford City Council voted 3-2 on Tuesday to allow Etter to lease and manage Cider Ridge, a Bill Bergin design that opened for play in 2002. It had been managed by Honours Golf for the past 10 years.
Formal details of the deal are expected to be hammered out next week.
Lett, 42, from Rainbow City, is excited to get started.
“I think the area is amazing,” he said. “I’m looking forward to … the challenge of bringing Cider Ridge back to where it used to be and serving that area. There are so many golfers in Calhoun County, so many great players, a lot of enthusiasm over there. Cory is killing it at Pine Hill. I can’t wait.”
Lett previously had been the pro at Boaz Golf Club, but most recently has been focused on instruction. He gives about 100 lessons a week at Hoover CC, with the majority of them for juniors.
He hopes to bring that passion to Cider Ridge and promises “the best (customer) service you’ll see.”
“I want to make Cider Ridge the club that community deserves to have,” he said. “It’s a championship golf course, a beautiful piece of property. We’re both enthusiastic guys and have that entrepreneurial spirit. I think we’re going to do well.”
Lett will be the ninth pro/GM Cider Ridge has had since it opened.
Etter’s connection to him goes beyond the pro shop; both are accomplished players. Etter beat Lett in the championship match of last year’s Alabama-Northwest Florida PGA Section Match Play Championship. Lett also won the Cane Creek Pro-Am in 2010.
