Wigley nets two goals and an assist, Thompson flawless in goal as Donoho beats Jacksonville 3-0
By East Alabama Sports Today
Spencer Wigley and Drew Williamson transitioned from the basketball hardwood to the soccer pitch and combined to score three goals Friday night, leading Donoho’s boys soccer team to a chilly 3-0 victory over Jacksonville.
Wigley scored twice and assisted on the other goal. All the goals came in the first half, which allowed Falcons coach Matthew Wright to substitute freely giving all his players much needed game experience.
Ethan Miles-Jameson and Grant Steed had the other two assists. Goalkeeper Nic Thompson recorded his second straight shutout.
The Falcons’ defense got strong play from Ethan Rogers, Jack Burgess, Trey Alexander, Riley Johnson, Hunter Davenport, and Zach Cater.
“They were able to slow down the quick midfield attack of Jacksonville and minimize dangerous scoring chances for most of the game,” Wright said.
Jacksonville was able to regroup at half and stopped the Falcons from adding to the lead with great defense from Hunter Sexton and Richard Evancho. Goalkeeper Isaac Joiner came up with a couple of big saves to keep the Falcons out of the net.
