CLEBURNE COUNTY 9, WHITE PLAINS 8: Matthew Brown’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth plated Jackson Miller with the winning run to spoil the debut of interim White Plains coach Chandler Tyree.
Miller started the rally with a single, then stole second and third. He also was the winning pitcher with three innings of relief.
Tyree assumed the Wildcats’ coaching duties Monday after head coach Wes Henderson was removed for the remainder of the season.
White Plains forced extra innings when it tied the the game on Carson Wright’s RBI single with two outs in a two-run sixth. Hayden Howard worked out of a one-out bases-loaded jam in the seventh to extend the game and the Wildcats had the go-ahead run at second with to outs in the eighth.
Miller, Porter Embry and Manney Rollins all had two hits for Cleburne County. Tyler Daniel went 3-for-5 for White Plains, while Wright and Duke Barnett had two hits apiece.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday against Faith Christian in a 10 a.m. Calhoun County Tournament matchup between teams that have gone through a tumultuous week — the Wildcats in a public changing of a coach and the Lions in a more private handling of an internal issue at a time no games were scheduled to be played.
PIEDMONT 10, RANBURNE 0: Jadon Calhoun pitched a five-inning no-hitter and came within one walk of a perfect game. Calhoun threw 62 pitches, 41 for strikes and fanned six. He retired the last 11 batters he faced after giving up a one-out walk in the second.
The Bulldogs’ came back to life after being one-hit the day before at Alexandria. Jack Hayes homered and drove in three runs. Austin Estes went 3-for-3, Jakari Foster went 2-for-2, Calhoun and Cassius Fairs both 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Noah Reedy got back on track having his streak of reaching safely snapped. Reedy went 2-for-2 with a walk.
ALEXANDRIA 8, JACKSONVILLE 3: Austin West had three hits and pitched into the sixth to get the win. Jake Upton’s two-run single highlighted a seven-run third inning that gave the Valley Cubs control. The first seven batters of the inning reached base and scored.
OXFORD 4, VESTAVIA HILLS 1: The Yellow Jackets scored three in the first on a Peyton Watts single that got through the right-fielder and Trey Mooney and Hayes Harrison checked Vestavia Hills on five hits in Yellow Jackets’ opener in the National Perfect Game Showdown at the Hoover Met Complex. Mooney allowed two hits over the first five innings and struck out five.
LOGANVILLE 3, OXFORD 2: Loganville’s William Cawthon hit a two-out, two-strike walk-off single in the seventh. Oxford tied the game in the top of the seventh and had the go-ahead run cut down at the plate.
CHEROKEE COUNTY 6, OHATCHEE 4: Walker Pruett and Haden Wheeler singled home runs in the top of the eighth to hand Ohatchee its first loss of the season. The Indians loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, but Brian Green got out of it with a strikeout and grounder back to the mound. Devin Howell continued to wield a hot bat for Ohatchee, going 3-for-5, raising his average to .556 (15-for-27).

WEAVER 6, OHATCHEE 5: Taylor Lawrence’s shot into the gap with one out in the home sixth snapped a 5-5 tie and freshman pitcher Kinley Fulmer escaped a threat in the seventh to wrap up a complete game.
Savannah Bitzer started the go-ahead rally with a single and was sacrificed into scoring position by Madison Atchley before Lawrence brought her home. Ohatchee put runners at first and second with one out in the seventh, but Fulmer got out of it with a pop out and ground out.
Bitzer, Kinley Marvasty and Hannah Hise all went 2-for-3 for the undefeated Lady Bearcats (4-0, 1-0).
PIEDMONT 11, RANBURNE 2: Maddie Byers homered twice and drove in six runs for the Lady Bulldogs. Byers broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run homer in the sixth and hit a three-run shot in a seven-run seventh that broke open the game.
PLEASANT VALLEY 8, WHITE PLAINS 0: Leah Patterson (12 strikeouts) and Madison Borders combined on a two-hit shutout. Bailey Harris went 3-for-3, Lily Henry went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Madyson Cromer hit a two-run homer.
PELL CITY 6, ALEXANDRIA 3: Madeline Houck went 4-for-4 and Brooklyn Preuss hit a two-run homer in the sixth to lead Pell City. The Lady Panthers opened a 6-0 lead and Alexandria scored three in the seventh on Jill Cockrell’s two-run single and Rylee Gattis’ RBI single.
Golf
SILVER LAKES – Hewitt-Trussville’s Molly Davidson shot a 4-under-par 68 at Silver Lakes Thursday and grabbed a three-shot win in Glencoe’s Yellow Jacket Invitational, but her two closest pursuers led Auburn to the team lead.
Morgan Jones shot 71 and Kate Ha shot 73 to lead Auburn to a team 227 and a 10-shot lead over Hewitt-Trussville. Spain Park was a shot behind Hewitt-Trussville in third. Alexandria finished fifth, three shots ahead of White Plains.
