Oxford baseball, Pleasant Valley softball pick up wins on a rainy day

Oxford 9, Hale County 5
OXFORD – Gavin Orcutt’s two-run single capped a five-run fourth inning that sent Oxford on its way to a 9-5 win over Hale County Tuesday at Choccolocco Park.
Orcutt, batting ninth in the order, went 2-for-2 with three RBIs for the Yellow Jackets. He singled home a run in the sixth.
Trey Higgins had two hits and two RBIs, Peyton Watts and Chance Griner both went 2-for-3, and Hayes Harrison had two RBIs.
Hale County answered the Jackets’ big inning with four in the top of the fifth, but the Jackets responded with an RBI single by Harrison in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth.
Softball
Pleasant Valley 6, Ohatchee 0
JACKSONVILLE – Leah Patterson ran her streak of consecutive games without allowing a run to seven when she shut out Ohatchee on two hits for her seventh shutout of the season. She struck out 12.
Patterson (11-1) held three opponents without a run Saturday in the Lady Raiders’ run to the White Plains Wildcat Classic title. The last run she allowed was against White Plains in the Alabama Softball Officials Tournament March 6.
Bailey Harris and Ava Boozer both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Rylee Haynes was 2-for-2 with three runs and two stolen bases. Boozer and Lily Henry both drove in a run.
