PIEDMONT – Pleasant Valley scored three runs in the second and fourth innings and ace Leah Patterson made it stand in the circle as the Lady Raiders got by Piedmont 6-2 in a Class 3A Area 11 softball game Tuesday.

Madison Borders brought home two runs in the second inning on a ball that was ruled an infield error and finished with three RBIs in the game. Ava Boozer highlighted the fourth-inning outburst with a two-run single.

The heart of PV’s batting order – Boozer, Bailey Harris and Madyson Cromer – all went 2-for-4 in the game. Macey Roper also had two hits for the Lady Raiders

Patterson, meanwhile, gave up seven hits, two runs, walked three and struck out seven. Piedmont scored both of its runs in the fourth inning.

Alexandria 3, Moody 2: Rylee Gattis pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, squelching a comeback bid in the seventh, and had two hits at the plate to lead Alexandria.

Gattis singled home the Lady Cubs’ first run in a two-run first inning. Moody scored a run in the third, but the Lady Cubs got it back in the bottom of the inning when Clancy Bright singled home Brie Troup.

Moody cut Alexandria’s lead to 3-2 with one out in the seventh, but Gattis got out of the jam by ending the game with a strikeout and fly out.

Weaver 10, Wellborn 1: Tiana Lawrence hit the first pitch she saw (the third pitch of the game) for a two-run homer to send the Lady Bearcats on their way to victory. Lawrence added a two-run single in their seven-run third. Starting pitcher Kylee Fulmer worked the first five innings and allowed three hits while striking out four.

Springville 11, Oxford 5: The Lady Jackets erased an early 4-0 deficit with five in the fourth inning, but Springville answered with two in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead for good. Matti Sprawberry drove home the first two runs of Oxford’s big inning with a two-run double and Takya Garrett gave it a 5-4 lead with an RBI triple. Aametria Wilson and Ashlyn Burns each had two hits for Oxford.
