Childersburg 12-14, Saks 13-3: Shon Elston went 2-or-3 with three RBIs and Rickey Garrett went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to help Saks win the opener and remain in contention for a Class 3A playoff berth.
The Wildcats jumped out front 13-2 in the fourth and held on. Childersburg scored three in the seventh and had the tying and go-ahead runs at second and first, respectively, with one out, but Jeremy Waters came on and got the final two outs to preserve the victory.
Childersburg won the nightcap. Saks led 3-2 after three innings, but the Tigers erupted for four in the fourth and broke it open with eight in the fifth. Kane Smith went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a homer for the Tigers.
The Game One win moved Saks into position to clinch a Class 3A playoff berth. If the Wildcats can beat Weaver when the teams resume that series following the Bearcats’ COVID-19 quarantine, they will be the area’s No. 2 team.
Jacksonville Christian 7-4, Victory Christian 5-15: Ethan Fair and Cam Moses both drove in a pair of runs at the plate and combined for a three-hitter on the mound as the Thunder won the first game to knock Victory out of contention for a playoff berth. After falling behind before ever coming to the plate, the Thunder opened leads of 4-2 and 6-3 and held on. Moses struck out 11 in the first 5 2/3 innings.
Victory won the nightcap 15-4, wiping out early 2-0 and 3-2 deficits.
