JACKSONVILLE – Ava Boozer and Madyson Cromer had RBI doubles in the first inning to get Pleasant Valley off and running and the Lady Raiders went on to beat Piedmont 5-2 to win their regular-season area title and the right to host their area tournament.
The Lady Raiders (23-12, 5-0) jumped out to a 5-1 lead and put the rest of Leah Patterson’s hands. Patterson scattered three hits in seven innings and struck out eight. She retired 14 of the last 16 batters she faced, including the last eight in a row.
Boozer, Cromer and Macey Roper all had a pair of hits for PV. Roper had two RBIs.
Cherokee County 6, White Plains 5: Carson Coley’s two-out single in the bottom of the tenth inning – the last of three straight singles – scored Karlee Perry from second to give the Lady Warriors the walk-off win. Alana Loyd pitched all 10 innings and struck out 12.
White Plains rallied from a 4-0 first-inning deficit and tied it on a two-out error in the top of the seventh. The Lady Wildcats hit three homers in the game, two by Kaylee Johnson and one by Ashlyn Cryer. Hallie Williams hit three doubles.
Alexandria 4, Moody 1: Brie Troup and Addie Jennings both drove in a pair of runs and Rylee Gattis scattered nine hits with eight stirkeouts to bring Alexandria the top seed in its upcoming area tournament. Gattis and Christian Hess had two hits apiece for the Lady Cubs (22-9).
Oxford 15, Southside 5: Takya Garrett and Ellie Derrick both had three hits including a two-run homer and seven hitters in the lineup had at least two hits as the Lady Jackets earned a split of the series.
Tia Titi also had three hits, while Justice Woods, Cohlee Boone, Matti Sprawberry and Abbie Mitchell had two hits apiece. Woods had three RBIs.
Weaver 9, Saks 3: Kinley Marvasty and Kynlee Fulmer each drove in a pair of runs and Tiana Lawrence homered for the Lady Bearcats.
Cleburne County 15, Handley 10: Jayci Boozer and Kendall Houston both had two-run singles in a five-run ninth that snapped a 10-10 tie. Boozer, Micah Pentecost and Kaylee Shierling all went 4-for-6 with Shierling and Boozer collecting four RBIs. Shierling hit a three-run homer to give the Lady Tigers a 3-2 lead in their nine-run fifth.
The teams combined for 33 hits and six home runs. Alexis Henry hit three solo homers for Handley. Boozer pitched all nine innings for Cleburne County and struck out 17. She threw 165 pitches.
Ragland 13, St. Clair County 2: Christen Ford went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Sammie Day-Jones had three hits with a pair of RBIs. Haley Franklin also drove in two runs with a pair of hits.
