The White Plains girls basketball team didn’t flinch when it got taken into overtime on Jacksonville’s last-second layup Monday night.
The Lady Wildcats have been to extra time so much this season they were actually used to it.
White Plains outscored Jacksonville 11-0 in overtime and 23-4 over the final 13 minutes of the game to pull out a 51-40 victory.
It was the Lady Wildcats’ fourth overtime game this season. They’ve won three of them.
“We’re always playing overtime, it’s nothing new to us,” guard Callyn Martin said. “It’s just like zero to zero when you start the game and you’ve got to come out hot. Whoever gets the first punch wins.”
The Lady Wildcats fought their way off the ropes. They trailed by eight with less than a minute to play in the third quarter. Martin ended the quarter with a 3-pointer, then her team scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take the lead.
Jacksonville forced the overtime and missed a chance to win it in regulation when leading scorer Ashley Grant hit a driving layup with six-tenths of a second remaining, but missed the and-one that would’ve ended it.
It was all White Plains in overtime. Hallie Williams got it started with a free throw, then Adriana Sotelo banged home a 3-pointer and the Lady Wildcats were off and running. It was all but over when Angel Bozarth drove over and through the Golden Eagles to make it 47-40 with 1:41 to play.
“We’ve been in that situation a lot lately; we’ve been there, so that helped us,” White Plains coach Matt Ford said. “That girl made a tough shot with a half a second left and we talked about that first, but then we had to forget about that and we said we’ve been here before let’s go with it.”
The Lady Wildcats were 7-for-12 from the field in the final 13 minutes of the game.
“We probably hit a layup or two that we had a missed previously,” Ford said. “I didn’t think the first half we played terrible, we just couldn’t get anything to fall.”
Bozarth led White Plains with 16 points and 15 rebounds. She also had two steals, two assists and blocked a shot. Williams had 11 points and Camden Wilson had 10 points and eight rebounds. Martin had eight points and four steals.
Grant led Jacksonville with 16 points and four assists. Amarie Curry had 13 points and eight rebounds.

TALLADEGA 73, ALEXANDRIA 66: It took a quarter for Talladega’s Trinity Webb to get comfortable, but once she got going she was virtually unstoppable.
Webb scored 51 points – 49 over the final three quarters – as the Lady Tigers rallied from a 14-point first-quarter deficit to pull out a win on the road. She scored 17 in the second quarter, 16 in the third and 16 in the fourth. She hit 12-of-14 free throws in the game, eight of 10 in the fourth quarter.
“She made some tough shots, but we didn’t do ourselves any favors,” Alexandria coach Craig Kiker said.
The Lady Cubs tried to keep up with Ashley Phillips, Jordyn Walker and Chloe Gattis. They combined for 49 points, with Phillips going for 28. Phillips had 10 in the first quarter as Alexandria opened an 18-4 lead.

OHATCHEE 63, CLEBURNE COUNTY 45: Jorda Crook scored eight points in the first quarter to help the Lady Indians build an early lead and finished with 40 to keep them ahead. Crook was particularly strong in the second half with 24 points.
Crook and Cleburne County’s Brooklyn McDaniel staged quite a battle inside. McDaniel scored 17 points.
“It was fun watching Jorda and Brooke go at each other for the whole game,” Ohatchee coach Bryant Ginn said.
