ALBERTVILLE – Hallie Williams ripped a bases-loaded double to left center with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, walking off a three-run rally that gave White Plains a 4-2 win over Pleasant Valley in the championship game of the Lady Lions Invitational at Sand Mountain Park.

The Lady Wildcats scored five in their final at-bat in their 6-3 semfinals win over Moody. They also beat Albertville 9-2 in their first bracket game behind Layton Arnold’s pitching and Kristen Rhodes’ three RBIs.

Pleasant Valley reached the finals with bracket victories over Fyffe (11-5) and Sardis (1-0). The Lady Raiders went 2-3 in the tournament.

“I’m really proud of how much progress my team has made this week,” PV coach David Bryant said. “We lost four really good seniors last season and are working to find our way. I’m looking forward to another great year in the Valley.”

Thompson blanked the Lady Cubs (10-2) to win the tournament title. Winning pitcher Rylee Gattis, Jill Cockrell and Pressley Slaton drove home runs in the semifinal win over Curry. Gattis struck out seven and drove in a run in the win over Hillcrest.

Beulah’s Katie Morris threw her second no-hitter of the day, blanking Jacksonville 4-0 in the championship game of the Weaver Bearcat Bash at Woodland Park.

Payton Marvasty’s two-run double in the bottom of the third gave Weaver a 4-3 lead in its victory over Faith Christian. The Lady Bearcats were no-hit by Morris and one-hit by Jacksonville.

Keelie Leach’s two-run double highlighted a five-run third that gave Jacksonville a 6-0 lead on Weaver. Carli Fritts fashioned the one-hitter.

Hailey Hanners went 6-for-7 with five doubles and eight RBIs in the two wins over Faith Christian and Chloe Jones spun a pair of three-inning one-hitters. The Lady Jackets were shutout on three Abi Bunt hits against Beulah.

Nevaeh Jackson broke a 2-2 tie with a bases-loaded triple in a five-run home first inning to put the Lady Jackets on top in the win over West End. Abbie Mitchell went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Cohlee Boone had two hits. Boone had two hits and Mitchell had two RBIs in the loss to McAdory.

Alexandria 4, Gadsden City 3: Sam Wade singled home Tanner Bedford with none out in the bottom of the 12thto help the Valley Cubs walk-off with a sweep of their two games. The Valley Cubs beat Westbrook Christian 15-4 in their first game of the day.

Bedford reached on an error to open the inning and moved all the way when the Titans misplayed Aaron Johnson’s grounder. Seth Johnson was intentionally walked to load the bases and then Wade hit a two-ball pitch up the middle for the game-winner.

After mobbing Wade following his game-winning hit, the Valley Cubs rushed and dunked on the basketball goal they made famous during last year’s playoffs.

Even Snow, the Valley Cubs’ fifth pitcher, got the win after setting down the Titans in order in the top of the 12th.

Wade, Austin West and Sam Henegar all went 3-for-4 in the win over Westbrook. Henegar had four RBIs, including the two-run single in the fifth that walked off that game.

Ohatchee 3, Jacksonville 1: Brent Honaker went 3-for-4 and Bryce Noah gave up and unearned run and struck out 12 in a complete game for the Indians’ first win of the season. Honaker singled home the second run in a two-run first inning that gave the Indians the lead. Noah retired 13 of the last 15 batters he faced.

Oxford 11, West Blocton 1: Hayes Harrison pitched a five-inning one-hitter, gave up an unearned run and struck out seven. He retired the first nine batters he faced before giving up a leadoff single in the fourth. 

Sam Robertson had two hits and three RBIs from the Jackets’ leadoff spot, Chance Griner went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs, and Payton Watts had two hits.

Pleasant Valley 15, Pisgah 1

The Raiders got a pair of one-hitters and a lot of run support to sweep their two games.

Jesse Gannaway pitched a five-inning one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the Pisgah and Braydon Maye and Jack Ponder combined for a one-hitter and 10 strikeouts against Columbia.

Zeke Curvin went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the Pisgah game. Maye went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Curvin and Pelham Parris each drove in two runs in the Columbia game.

The Bulldogs picked up their first two wins of the season in a couple run-rule games. Jack Hayes hit a two-run homer in the first inning and struck out seven in the first three innings against Sylvania. Max Hanson drove in three runs with two hits in an eight-run first against Hokes Bluff.

Saks 8, Ragland 6: Trent Hopkins had two hits and two RBIs and Rickey Garrett had two hits and pitched the last two innings for the win against Ragland. Garrett and Clay Rucker each had two hits in the nightcap, a 9-5 loss to Coosa Christian.

West Blocton 11, Wellborn 6: West Blocton broke open the game with a five-run fourth, then scored three in the fifth after the Panthers closed to 7-5 in the top of the inning. JoJo Wyatt had two hits and three RBIs for the Panthers. Beau Neely had two hits.

Soccer

In Friday night action, Faith Christian was swept by Montevallo. The girls lost 2-0 and the boys lost 5-3. Nic Goodgame scored all three goals for the Lions. Mason Blackstone had eight saves in the net.
