Alexandria softball wins a marathon with Etowah, White Plains uses long ball to dump Piedmont; Faith soccer sweeps Ashville
Softball
Alexandria 18, Etowah 17: The Lady Cubs pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to end a 35-run marathon more reminiscent of a slow-pitch game on a winning note.
There were 35 combined runs, 38 hits, 90 total batters and 294 pitches. Winning pitcher Pressley Slaton threw a complete game with 151 pitches.
Christian Hess went 3-for-5 with her third homer of the season and drove in three runs, while Addie Jennings (2-for-5) had five RBIs and Ashley Phillips (3-for-5) drove in four. Jill Cockrell and Slaton also had three hits for the Lady Cubs.
The Lady Cubs answered Etowah threats at every turn. The big answer came in the fifth when they scored eight runs after Etowah scored nine in the top of the inning.

White Plains 11, Piedmont1: Camden Wilson and Callie Richardson both hit two-run homers to lead the Wildcats’ 12-hit attack. Courtnee Masson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Adriana Sotelo drove in a pair of runs. Richardson pitched a complete game in the circle, scattering four hits and striking out two.
Soccer
FAITH SWEEPS: The boys and girls teams from Faith Christian swept their doubleheader with Ashville. The girls scored a 5-0 shutout and the boys won 5-3.
Anna Strautman and Avarie Daniel both scored a pair of goals for the Lady Lions. Nancy Brock scored the other goal. Hannah Kramer and Maya Montgomery posted the combined shutout.
Nic Goodgame had a hat trick for the boys. Yashua Arevalo scored a goal and the other came on an own goal off a cross from Daniel Blackstone.
