Yellow Jackets sweep EA Sports Today’s County All-Sports standings as boys, girls teams post best overall cumulative finish during county tournament series
By East Alabama Sports Today
Oxford’s sweep of the Calhoun County Track Meet titles on Monday led to a sweep of another kind for the Yellow Jackets.
By winning both the girls and boys sides of the track meet, the Yellow Jackets clinched both parts of East Alabama Sports Today’s Calhoun County All-Sports standings.
The standings were determined by assigning values to each team’s finishes in the various Calhoun County Tournaments – 15 for first, 13 for second, 12 for third and on down the line. There was even a football element included based on a team’s finish in the playoffs.
Oxford, the largest school in the county, edged Alexandria on both sides with the girls all-sports race a lot closer than the boys.
The Yellow Jackets’ boys program amassed 99.5 points to the Valley Cubs’ 80. Oxford won county titles in basketball, baseball and track this county tournament season. Alexandria won in wrestling, was runner-up in baseball and tied for second in golf.
The Oxford girls scored 81 points to Alexandria’s 79.5. The Lady Jackets won titles in basketball and track and were second in soccer. Alexandria won volleyball, golf and softball and were second in cross country and track, but it did not field a team in soccer.
