If Alexandria wanted to be the volleyball team most everyone in orange and black expects, the Lady Cubs knew they had to flush their loss to Donoho the night before quickly.
They did that Tuesday and picked up a pair of wins that were important for vastly different reasons.
The Lady Cubs swept Ohatchee 25-21, 25-17 to pick up another in-county win and solidify their No. 1 seed in the Calhoun County Tournament after losing to the No. 2 seed the night before. More importantly, they beat Southside 25-8, 25-17, 25-18 to split their area series and keep alive their hopes of hosting their area tournament.
“I am very proud of how our girls bounced back after the Donoho match,” acting head coach Kelli Johnson said. “It was important to win the Southside match and our whole team played a vital role in the win. We were energetic and aggressive, and we carried that over into the Ohatchee match.”
Kailey Dickerson and Eryn Spradley each had seven kills in the Ohatchee match, Christian Hess had 16 assists and Ava Johnson five aces. Spradley had 12 kills in the Southside win, Dickerson seven and Brie Troup six, while Devan White had seven digs and Hess had 23 assists.
Ohatchee beat Southside 2-0 to split its night. Jorda Crook had 29 kills and six blocks in the two matches. Alanah Fitch had five kills and 13 assists, and Hannah Fitch had 22 assists and three blocks.
