Johnson hits for the cycle, also pitches strong relief performance in Game 1 as Oxford sweeps Oak Mountain on the road;

PELHAM — Carter Johnson hit for the cycle while helping Oxford sweep Oak Mountain 6-4 and 10-0 in baseball on Friday.

He hit a solo homer in the first inning, tripled in the third, doubled in the fifth and singled in the seventh inning of Game 1, which Oxford won 6-4.

He scored two runs and drove in two.

Johnson also pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two hits and two walks but no runs. He struck out six batters.

Oxford also got two RBIs and a double from Payton Watts. Roby Brooks had a double among his two hits, and Sam Robertson was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.

Drew McCormack got the win, working the first 3 2/3 innings. He struck out six batters with two walks, giving up three hits. None of the four runs against him were earned.

The second game saw Hayes Harrison and Jackson Crow combine for a shutout. Harrison worked the first five innings, allowing three hits and no walks with eight strikeouts.

Crow allowed one hit and one walk with four strikeouts over the last two innings.

Harrison and Trace Adams each drove in two runs. Adams homered in the seventh inning.

Robertson went 2-for-3 with three runs, and Watts doubled with three runs and an RBI.
