Jacksonville’s Broom, Piedmont’s Odam help Alabama All-Stars down Mississippi 91-72; Donoho takes two from Collinsville in 2A, Area 13 baseball series

MOBILE — Jacksonville’s John Broom and Piedmont’s Alex Odam held their own for the guard-rich Alabama All-Stars basketball team Saturday.

Odam scored eight points, and Broom added six as Alabama won its annual all-star against Mississippi 91-72 at the University of South Alabama.

Odam, who led Piedmont to the Northeast Regional final, made all three of his shots from the field and both free throws. He had two assists and one steal.

Broom, the Class 4A Final Four MVP after leading Jacksonville to his second state title in as many years, went 2-for-4 from the field, 2-for-3 from the 3-point line. He also had three rebounds.

Baseball

DONOHO 17-6, COLLINSVILLE 13-3: Lucas Elliott drove in four runs in the first game, and Peyton Webb drove in four in the second game as Donoho improved to 7-1 overall, 3-0 in Class 2A, Area 13 play.

The Falcons pounded out 15 hits in the first game, with the first seven batters in the order recording two hits apiece. Elliott had a triple among his two hits and scored a run to go with his four RBIs. 

Blake Sewell drove in two runs. Nic Thompson and Peyton Webb each had a double and an RBI.

Webb homered twice in the second game. Thompson drove in two runs, and Hayes Farrell hit a double.

Farrell and Elliott combined to allow four hits and one earned run. Farrell worked the first four innings for the win, and Elliott worked the final three innings for his first career save since fifth grade.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 6, WELLBORN 1: Cam Moses and Ethan Fair pitched a combined one-hitter with 11 strikeouts for JCA (4-2-1). Moses struck out nine batters in the first four innings, and Fair worked the final three in relief with two strikeouts.

Thunder had three hits … a Bryson Dowdey double and a single apiece from Noah Lee and Elijah Martin. Lee had the Thunder’s lone RBI.

JCA will play host to Appalachian on Tuesday. 

RAGLAND 10, VICTORY CHRISTIAN 7: Jake Donaldson had a double among his three hits and drove in four Ragland runs. He also started on the mound, striking out three batters and walking three with no earned runs in three innings.

Drake Kay went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jabari Thomas and Ezra Hill each hit a double.

PIEDMONT TAKES TWO: The Bulldogs beat Gadsden City 4-2 and LaGrange (Ga.) 6-2.

Brodie Homesley pitched a complete game against LaGrange, allowing four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

McClane Mohon went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Jack Hayes, Cole Wilson, Kale Austin, Cole Austin and Sloan Smith each drove in a run. Wilson had a double.

Against Gadsden City, Hayes, Kale Austin and Jake Austin accounted for Piedmont’s three hits, all singles. Max Hanson, Jake Austin and Mohon each drove in a run.

Hayes got the start on the mound and pitched a hitless four innings with eight strikeouts. He, Jonah Pike, Wilson and Jake Austin threw a combined two-hitter. Wilson got the win and Austin the save.

ALEXANDRIA 7, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 4: Aiden Bunner and DeShaun Foster homered for Alexandria. Both players drove in two runs.

Aaron Johnson doubled with two RBIs. Eli Barnes had a triple among his two hits, and Ian Cartwright doubled and scored a run.

Starter Clay Bridges spread out seven hits over five innings, allowing three earned runs and two walks with three strikeouts. Evan Snow and Andrew Allen each pitched an inning of relief, allowing no earned runs.

Softball

OHATCHEE 13, SOUTHEASTERN 6: Whitney McFry went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs to lead the Indians. Tabi Davidson went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

Alanah Fitch also drove in two runs and scored one, and Breanna Martin went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
