Top seed Oxford advances to final, will play No. 2 seed Donoho; Falcons advance as nagging injuries limit playing time, role for Turley
By East Alabama Sports Today
MCCLELLAN — The top two seeds got through to Thursday’s final of the girls’ Calhoun County soccer tournament.
Top seed Oxford advanced with a 3-0 victory over Jacksonville in one semifinal, and No. 2 seed held off Saks 2-1.
Oxford and Donoho will play for the title Thursday at 5 p.m. at McClellan. Donoho has won the past five county tourneys.
The Falcons come into Thursday’s final with injury issues, however. Erin Turley has a pulled quadriceps and didn’t play in a first-round victory over White Plains. She saw limited action against Saks, mostly in the second half and in a limited role.
Donoho got a goal apiece from Izzy Romero and Zoe Christopher on Wednesday. Turley assisted Christopher’s goal. Saks led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by senior Daniela Escandon off of a corner kick.
Oxford got two goals from Sadie Robertson, and seventh-grader Skylar Brooks scored the other on an assist from her sister, senior Sawyer Brooks. Reygan White and Rachel Garcia also had assists.
