In baseball, Cookeville has a long Tripp against Alexandria; Donoho, PV split; Piedmont sweeps; JCA and Faith split; J-ville wins; PV, Piedmont and White Plains win in softball

OXFORD — Cookeville (Tenn.) High School’s baseball team came to Oxford’s Choccolocco Park on Wednesday looking to complete a nice trip. The visitors got a locked in Tripp.

Tripp Patterson pitched a three-hit shutout, and Alexandria beat Cookeville 7-0.

Patterson struck out seven batters and walked one. He faced four batters over the minimum, throwing 66 strikes in 98 pitches.

Aaron Johnson and Ty Brown led the way at the plate, each driving in two runs. Johnson went 3-for-4 with a run, and Brown was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs.

Alexandria also got a hit and RBI apiece from Ian Cartwright and Aiden Brunner.

DONOHO 4-8, PLEASANT VALLEY 2-12: Peyton Webb pitched a complete-game five-hitter with 12 strikeouts in Game 1. He also had a double and RBI.

Lucas Elliott was 2-for-3 with a double. Marcus Lawler and William Worley had a hit and RBI apiece.

Bryce Freeman had a double and RBI for Pleasant Valley, and Connor George spread out six hits over seven innings for a complete game.

In Game 2, Samuel Duncan had a double among his three hits and drove in four runs. Will Underwood was also 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Connor George had a double and two RBIs for Pleasant Valley (14-11).

Zeke Curvin’s 2-for-4 performance in Game 2 included a triple. He had done RBI.

For Donoho (18-2), Blake Sewell was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs. Nic Thompson went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Elliott had a triple and two RBIs.

Donoho won two out of three games in the 2A, Area 13 series. The Falcons came back from a 10-0 deficit to win 12-10 Tuesday.

Both teams scored 24 runs over the three games, and Pleasant Valley finished 8-2 under interim head coach Dalton Turner, winning his first seven games.

PIEDMONT 12-15, WELLBORN 0-2: Piedmont clinched its 11th consecutive area title by sweeping a Class 3A, Area 10 series with Wellborn, getting several big performances.

McClane Mohon had a productive combined performance on the day, going 4-for-7 with a double, five runs and three RBIs.

Max Hanson went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, and Jack Hayes was 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs and four RBIs.

Jacob McElroy was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and an RBI in Piedmont’s 12-0 win, and Kale Austin was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

The nightcap saw Trevor Pike go 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Jake Austin and Hanson combined to pitch a two-hitter in Game 2, and Kale Austin and Pike combined to hold Wellborn to four hits in Game 1.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 5-17, FAITH CHRISTIAN 6-0: Trailing 5-4 in the final at bat, Faith Christian took advantage of a two-run error on an Eli Robinson grounder to win.

Brady Whitworth went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs. Kash Sharma had a single and two RBIs. Jayden Smith had two hits, and Will Smith hit a double.

After losing Game 1, JCA got four RBIs apiece from Deon Dupree and Hunter Brown. Dupree was 3-for-3, and Brown was 2-for-2.

Ethan Fair was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Cam Moses and Elijah Martin drove in two runs apiece.

Moses pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings.

JACKSONVILLE 16, ANNISTON 0: Matthew Parker and Maguire Mallett combined to pitch a one-hitter, striking out seven batters in five innings.

At the plate, Jackson Bonner went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Gavin Peeler was 1-for-2 with two RBIs,and Bradyn Loggins had a double and RBI.

Softball

PLEASANT VALLEY 11, RANBURNE 0: Pleasant Valley (11-8) has won eight of its last 10 going into Saturday’s games against Piedmont, Madison Academy and Sardis.

Against Ranburne, Macey Roper, Lily Henry and Jordan Cheatwood had three hits apiece. Cheatwood had a double and two RBIs, and Roper hit a triple and scored two runs.

Henry was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and combined with Haylie Lee to hold Ranburne to five hits with five strikeouts.

Madyson Cromer was 2-for-3 with an RBI 

PIEDMONT 12, SAKS 0: Jaycee Glover hit a three-run home run while going 2-for-3 with two runs. 

Cacey Brothers went 2-for-3 with a run and four RBIs, and Jenna Calvert went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Armoni Perry also had a double and RBI.

Emma Grace Todd had a double and RBI and combined with Carson Young to hold Saks to three hits.

WHITE PLAINS 14, JACKSONVILLE 8: Leighton Arnold and Callie Richardson homered for White Plains.Richardson went 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and four RBIs, and Arnold drove in three runs.

Cooper Martin hit two doubles with two runs and an RBI. Hallie Williams had a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Addison Bradley had a double and RBI.

Jacksonville’s Sara Kate Adams went 2-for-4 with a double, run and two RBIs. Keeli Leach and Je’henna Engram each hit a double and drove in a run.

Soccer

SAKS 2, FAITH CHRISTIAN 1: In a late-reported match from Tuesday, Layla Garcia scored both Saks goals and teamed with Danna Garcia to control the middle as Saks played without five starters.
