MOBILE — Faith Christian has a newly minted state runner up in tennis.
The doubles team of Eli Mitchell and Joshua Goode finished second in the Class 1A-3A No. 1 doubles division.
The pair beat the Shoals Christian tandem of John David Bachofer/Samuel Camp 6-1, 6-1 and Covenant Christian’s Gray McCoy/Tucker McWilliams 6-0, 7-6 to reach the final.
Toba Rios/Josh Harvey, from state champion St. James, won the final 6-1, 6-2.
“We are all so proud of their run this season, winning the Calhoun County (Red Wilder) and North Alabama sectional tournaments in doubles, and progressing in state to the final,” Faith coach Dameon Goode said. “They are excellent technical players who exemplify mental toughness, intelligent decision-making, and great character in their combined play as doubles partners.
“They are leaders on and off the court, and it was a fitting ending to a special season for these young men and for Faith Christian tennis that their last high school match would be for the state championship.”
