A school year dotted with major coaching changes has ended, but Piedmont has another spot to fill.
Terrace Ridley has resigned as the school’s varsity girls’ basketball coach, Piedmont principal Dr. Adam Clemons said. He said the school expects to fill the spot soon.
“We greatly appreciate all the Coach Ridley has done for our girls’ basketball program,” Clemons said. “During her tenure, the program developed many talented players and successful teams.
“We’re in the process of interviewing and expect to announce a varsity head girls’ basketball coach in the next few weeks.”
When the 2023-24 school year begins, Piedmont will have new head football coach and athletics director Jonathan Miller, who was hired to replace Steve Smith, who accepted the same jobs at Westbrook Christian. Long-time assistant Matt Glover was promoted to become head boys’ basketball coach after Jonathan Odam stepped aside to clear up time to follow son Alex’s playing career at Jacksonville State University.
Ridley will continue as a physical education teacher at Piedmont Elementary School.
A Piedmont graduate and the school’s all-time leading scorer in girls’ basketball, Ridley announced her resignation after daughter LeLe Ridley’s graudation. LeLe Ridley starred in basketball and track for the Bulldogs. She was a first-team All-Calhoun County selection and third-team all-state pick in basketball.
“I am truly blessed for the 17 years total I have spent coaching here at Piedmont, especially the years with my daughter and being a part of her milestones,” Terrace Ridley said. “She will be starting her career at JSU this fall, in which I’m so proud because that’s where I graduated from twice.
“Anyone who knows me can tell you how much I love the sport and kids, in which the time I’ve poured into it speaks for itself. As I step away, only God knows what’s in store for me and my family, but my passion for coaching will always be open.”
