Vipers fall to 0-3

Brookshire, Heath and O’Neal provide offense, but it’s not enough as Oxford’s Vipers fall in series opener against Texas Smoke

AUSTIN, Texas — Suzy Brookshire, Karly Heath and Raina O’Neal drove in a run apiece, but Oxford’s Smash It Sports Vipers fell 5-3 in Monday’s Women’s Professional Fastpitch series opener against the Texas Smoke.
The loss left the Vipers at 0-3 on the season.
Brookshire went 1-for-2 with an RBI, doubling home Brooke Wilmes in the first inning.
Heath went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI, scoring Tatyana Forbes from second base with a two-out single in the fifth inning. Heath was out trying to reach third.
O’Neal was 1-for-3 with an RBI, scoring Heath from third base with a fourth-inning single.
The Vipers outhit the Smoke 8-6.
The Smoke scored all five of their runs against Vipers starter Amber Fisher, who allowed six hits and five earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts over five innings.
Sierra Hyland struck out two batters while pitching a perfect sixth inning.
The two teams will play the second game of their series Tuesday. The Vipers’ home opener is Friday against Texas at 7 p.m. at Choccolocco Park.
