AUSTIN, Texas — The Smash It Sports Vipers’ third five-running inning this season, and second in two weeks, keyed their 7-6 victory over the Texas Smoke in the first game of Thursday’s road doubleheader.
The Vipers (6-15) and Smoke played two games Thursday, one to make up for a June 21 rainout. The Smoke won Thursday’s second game 5-0 behind Autumn Pease’s four-hitter.
In the first game, the Vipers put up a run apiece in the first and fourth innings and five in the fifth. That rally saw the Vipers come back from a 5-2 deficit to take a 7-5 lead.
Karly Heath wielded the biggest stick of the day, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Two RBIs came on her fifth-inning single.
Alissa Dalton hit an RBI double in the fifth. Brooke Wilmes and Chelsea Gonzales hit an RBI single apiece in the rally.
Meghan Schorman got the win in relief of starter Amber Fiser.
