White Plains wins, Jacksonville and Weaver split under new head coaches. Alexandria, Oxford sweep trimatches. Munford tops Lincoln.

WHITE PLAINS — Isabella Higgins reeled off 17 kills, and White Plains beat Piedmont 25-15, 21-25, 19-25, 25-9, 15-9 on Thursday in Jamie Clendenin’s first match as the Wildcats’ head coach.
Clendenin, who coached Donoho to two state titles and a runner-up finish, came to White Plains in the offseason after one season at Sylacauga.
Higgins added three aces, a dig and two blocks. Other top performers for White Plains:

ALEXANDRIA SWEEPS: The Valley Cubs swept a trimatch, beating Lawrence County 25-13, 25-19 and Pleasant Valley 25-13, 25-20 at home. Top performers for Alexandria on the day:
—Kailey Dickerson: 20 kills, seven digs, two aces, one block.
—Eryn Spradley: 15 kills, four aces, one block, one dig.
—Devin White: seven digs, two assists.
—Ava Johnson: one kill, six digs.
—Christian Hess: 13 assists, one dig, two aces.
—Sophie Martin: 24 assists, one kill, one dig, one block.
OXFORD SWEEPS: Oxford opened the season by beating Jacksonville. 25-16, 25-10 and Sylacauga 25-12, 25-20. Top performers for Oxford on the day:

—Daelyn Bozeman: 10 kills, one block.
—Mileah Prince: 11 kills, two blocks.
—Jaslyn Montgomery: three kills, one block.
—Jamea Gaston: 16 digs, three aces.
—Arilyn Pool: five digs.
—Payton Brooks had 12 digs, four aces, 29 assists.
JACKSONVILLE SPLITS: In Jacksonville’s first matches under new head coach Amber Russell, the Golden Eagles beat Sylacauga 25-16, 19-25, 15-10 and lost to Oxford 16-25, 10-25 at Oxford.
Russell replaces long-time head coach David Clark, who retired from coaching but continues as Jacksonville’s athletics director.

WEAVER SPLITS: Weaver open its first season under head coach Eboney Lewis by splitting a trimatch, beating Wellborn 25-18, 18-25, 15-5 and falling to Faith Christian 25-20, 24-26, 15-13. Top performers for Weaver against Wellborn:

—McKenley Davis: five kills.
—McKennah Homesley: five kills, two aces.
—Jadey Hatten-Rivera: three aces, three kills.
MUNFORD WINS: The Lions swept Talladega County rival Lincoln 25-19, 25-23, 25-12.
Munford rallied from a 19-22 deficit in the second set thanks in part to senior Aubrey Lathem’s two service aces. Lauryn Brewster sealed the set with a kill.
