McGatha, defending champion Wigington, Rollins and Brooks sweep through to semifinals as top four seeds advance to Sunday.

Chalk was the rule during Saturday’s play in the 2023 Calhoun County Match Play championship at Anniston Municipal Golf Course.
The top four seeds — No. 1 Jeremy McGatha, No. 2 Gary Wigington, No. 3 John Rollins and No. 4 Andrew Brooks — advanced to the semifinals. McGatha will play Brooks, and Wigington will play Rollins on Sunday at 10 a.m.
The final is 1:30 p.m.
McGatha started Saturday with a 3 & 1 victory over 16 seed Chase Hollingsworth then beat No. 8 Dustin Travis 4 & 3. Travis beat No. 9 Randy Lipscomb 6 & 5 in the first round.
Brooks beat No. 13 Hunter Carr 2 & 1 in the first round and No. 5 Brennan Clay 2 & 1 in the quarterfinals. Clay opened with a 7 & 6 victory over No. 12 Mason Dennis.
On the other side of the bracket, Wigington, the defending champion, beat No. 15 Daniel Black 3 & 2 and No. 9 Tanner Wells 5 & 4. Wells went 6 & 5 over No. 10 Vance Lewis in the first round.
Rollins’ path included a 1 up victory over No. 14 Ott Chandler and 3 & 2 over No. 8 Kevin Daugherty. Daugherty opened 4 & 3 over No. 11 Sawyer Edwards.
