JACKSONVILLE — One night after winning their first Calhoun County championship since 1995, Jacksonville’s boys scored an area victory.

The Golden Eagles got 26 points from Aaron Nixon and beat Cleburne County 70-44 in a rescheduled Class 4A, Area 10 game.

Nixon made six of nine 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds and two steals.

County-tournament most valuable player Devin Barksdale scored eight points, with two 3-pointers. The junior also had three assists and three steals on a night when he was recognized for crossing the 1,000-point threshold for his career.

Barksdale passed 1,000 points while scoring 18 in the county championship Friday. Jacksonville beat Oxford 56-36.

Jacksonville’s other top performers:

—Imoree Young: 15 points (three 3-pointers), four rebounds.
—Quinn Weaver: 10 points, two steals, two assists.

Girls

SOUTHSIDE 42, SARDIS 22: Madison Shaw hit three 3-pointers en route to a team-high 11 points, and Southside won the Etowah County championship for only the second time in program history.

The Panthers also won last season en route to reaching the Northeast Regional final for the first time in program history.

Southside’s Grace Anne Rose was tournament most valuable player. Shaw, Laylah Davis and Jovi Marble made the all-tournament team:

Southside’s other top performers against Sardis:

—Rose: 10 points, 12 rebounds, three assists.
—Davis: nine points (one 3-pointer), six rebounds. 
—Marble: two points, five rebounds.

JACKSONVILLE 63, CLEBURNE COUNTY 23: Mya Swain scored 14 points with three steals to lead Jacksonville to a Class 4A, Area 10 victory.

On a night when brother Quinn scored 10 points in the boys’ game, Emmerson Weaver added 11 points.

—Alexis Phillips: 10 points, four steals.
—Halaina Lozano: seven points (one 3-pointers), three assists, five steals.
