LINCOLN — Talladega High School’s girls made school history in track Monday.
Led by Justasia Pointer’s 40 points, the Tigers won the Talladega County track & field championship for the first time in school history.
The Tigers posted 173.5 points, beating second-place Winterboro by 40. They were the only to schools to break 100 points.
“These girls bought into the vision and made the sacrifice of running in events that they didn’t particularly want to do, but they did it to get points for the team,” Talladega coach B.J. Webb said. “I told them, plain and simple, ‘Winners win, so go out there and claim what’s ours.’”
Pointer won the 100-meter dash, 200, long jump and triple jump.
Zae Cunningham took first in the 300 hurdles and second in the 100 hurdles, and she was part of the winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
Freshman Alauna Richardson took second in the 800 and 1,600, and she was part of the victorious 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
Lincoln won the boys’ championship, beating Winterboro 170-112.
