BEULAH — Randolph County upgraded from road warriors to area champions on Saturday.
The Tigers beat host Beulah for the second time in the Class 3A, Area 7 tournament, winning 10-2 in the final. They’ll go to the Central Regional at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park as area champion.
Beulah also advanced as the area’s No. 2 qualifier. Area tournaments end Tuesday, and regionals start May 6. Randolph County (25-8-2) will open regional play May 8 at 10:45 a.m.
Randolph County (25-8-2), winner in 11 of its last 12 games, beat Dadeville 5-4 ad Beulah 3-1 on Friday to reach the final of their three-team area.
Beulah beat Dadeville to reach the final, where Randolph County got more than enough offense and a solid outing from pitcher Autumn Taylor. The Tigers also took advantage of three Beulah errors and six walks.
Taylor pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits but one earned run with four strikeouts in seven innings.
Talee Sims had a double and an RBI, and Randolph County got a single and RBI apiece from Lexi Key and Hannah Parmer. Key and Kinsley Weathers scored two runs apiece.
Brantlee Wortham and Macie Smith each had a run and an RBI.
Class 6A, Area 12
OXFORD RUNNER UP: Oxford (20-18) reached the area final with a 21-2 victory in an elimination-bracket game against Clay-Chalkville then suffered its second loss of the tournament to Pell City, 7-3.
The Yellow Jackets advanced to the East Regional at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park. Oxford will play Mountain Brook on May 6 at 10:45 a.m.
Sophomore Koriyah Kimbrough led the offensive fun against Clay-Chalkville, hitting a two-run home run in her lone at bat. It was one of Oxford’s 16 hits.
Jayla Jackson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Emma Tims-Becerra was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Chloe Hulsey went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Charleigh Trotter was 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs.
Berkley Mooney had a triple, a run and an RBI, and Jordyn Alexander had a double, three runs and an RBI.
Adajiah Wilson and Kaelyn Crossley each had a single, two runs and an RBI. Reagan Sanders singled with a run and RBI, and Kylee Stephens drove in two runs.
Jackson got the win, striking out eight batters and allowing four hits in four innings.
Sanders and Mooney each had a single and RBI against Pell City. Tims-Becerra and Crossley each had a single and a run.
Class 3A, Area 10
PIEDMONT TO FINALS: Host Piedmont (20-9) advanced to Monday’s finals after outlasting Weaver 1-0 in a classic winners’ bracket game on Saturday, and Weaver (18-8) will play Wellborn in Monday’s elimination game.
The top two area finishers advance to the East Regional at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park. Class 3A teams open play May 8 at 10:45 a.m.
Piedmont opened Saturday’s play with an 11-1 victory over Saks, and Weaver beat Wellborn 12-2. Wellborn eliminated Saks 25-12.
That set up a winners’ bracket final to remember. Piedmont’s Savannah Smith pitched a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts, and Weaver’s Kynlee Fulmer pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts.
Smith’s RBI single plated Cayla Brothers in the first inning for the game’s lone run. Brothers doubled ahead of Smith.
Piedmont also got a double from Amiyah Thomas. Weaver’s Sydney Bitzer went 2-for-4 with a double.
Piedmont’s Cacey Brothers homered and drove in three runs against Saks. Ava Pope had two doubles and two RBIs, and Smith had two doubles and an RBI.
Jaycee Glover singled with an RBI, and Kaelyn Green doubled.
Saks’ A.J. Twymon hit a solo home run.
Weaver’s Peyton Marvasty went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and four total RBIs against Wellborn. Anna Shirvinski was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Ella Kines and Alana Cooper were each 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Cooper scored three runs.
Fulmer singled with an RBI and pitched a complete game, allowing six hits with 10 strikeouts in six innings.
