Choccolocco Monsters put up 11 runs, win opener of 2024 Sunbelt League season over Atlanta Crackers.

ATLANTA — Say this about the Choccolocco Monsters’ 2024 opener at Atlanta on Monday … the wood bats were cracking.
Rashad Robinson and Jake Goolsby each went 2-for-4 and tied with a team-high three RBIs, and the Monsters beat the Atlanta Crackers 11-10 in the season opener for both teams.
The Monsters played their home games in Oxford in 2022 and moved back to Oxford after playing the 2023 season in Columbus, Ga.
With the help of a six-run fourth inning, the Monsters got out to an 11-4 lead and held off a rally as the Crackers scored six over the final three innings. The Monsters’ six-run fourth included a solo home run from former Oxford High standout Hayes Harrison, who also went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Robinson hit a three-run homer in the Monsters’ big inning. Goolsby hit a two-run shot.
This Monsters’ Hugh Windle went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
With runners on second and third and one out, the Monsters’ Avery Brown struck out the Crackers’ Daniel Smith and got Garrison Coleman to pop out.
The Monsters and Crackers will play again in Atlanta on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. then play their home opener Friday, against Brookhaven, at Choccolocco Park.
