WEAVER — Jacori Avery’s interception stopped Weaver’s last-gasp drive, and Saks beat the Bearcats 26-20 in Friday’s Class 3A, Region 6 action at Weaver.

Saks (1-3) led 20-7 at halftime and scored after Weaver came back to tie the game. 

Shannon Noel led the Wildcats’ defense with 18 total tackles, including 14 assists. He also forced a fumble.

Delandas Allen had 16 tackles. Juelz McClellan and LaJuan Curry each recovered a fumble.

Makhal Smith threw a touchdown pass, and Jahmaad Crook rushed for 189 of Saks’ 326 rushing yards. Crook also scored a touchdown.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 28, TALLADEGA 26: In Class 4A, Region 3 play, Cleburne County fought off a Talladega comeback to bag the Tigers’ 450th victory all-time.

With the win, Cleburne County 450-500-27 all-time.

The Tigers also got their first victory under first-year head coach Vaughn Lee.

Carter Hughes rushed for 115 yards on 35 carries, and Cade Shubert hit on six of 12 passes for 70 yards.

OXFORD 40, PINSON VALLEY 7: The fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets held Pinson Valley to 154 total yards while improving to 4-0, 2-0 on Class 6A, Region 6.

Quarterback Mason Mims passed for 196 yards and three touchdowns, one each to Nick Richardson, Jalin Taylor and D.K. Wilson.

Caleb Wynn rushed for 124 yards and two scores.

“I was really proud of our defensive effort,” Oxford coach Sam Adams said. “We made them earn everything they got and gave them nothing cheap.

“Despite the number of points that we scored, this wasn’t our sharpest performance on offense. We’ll need to be better next week against Mountain Brook.”

WELLBORN 28, GLENCOE 9: In Class 3A, Region 6 play, the Panthers gained 436 total yards,345 rushing. Jackson Newton led the way with 137 yards on 18 carries with one touchdown.

Kyle Bright added 70 yards on eight rushes, and Raymond Williams rushed five times for 68 yards.

Quarterback Aziah Amberson completed three of six passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns … 45 yards to Ethan Carroll and 22 yards to Jackson Clark.

Wellborn improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2020.

Wellborn tight end/defensive end Colby Spears was taken by ambulance to UAB Hospital after sustaining a apparent concussion. He was examined and released, Wellborn coach Jeff Smith said.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 38, VICTORY (MISS) 6: Noah Lee was 15-for-22 for 248 yards and five touchdowns as JCA improved to 4-1.

Jesse Gannaway had eight catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a 70-yard run.

Bryson Dowdey caught seven passes for 104 yards and a touchdown, and Skylar Crider had a 17-yard touchdown reception.

Caleb Stallings rushed for 55 yards.

Lee, Jack Henry Harris and Moses Averette all had fumble recoveries.

RANDOLPH COUNTY 28, DADEVILLE 0: Wendell Winston rushed for 242 yards on 24 carries as the Tigers improved to 3-0, 1-0 in Class 3A, Region 4. He scored on runs of 26 and 70 yards.Randolph County rushed for 314 yards and held Dadeville to 124 total yards.

COOSA CHRISTIAN 42, FALKVILLE 0: Kylen Johnson rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown, and Kanon Wilson added 36 yards and two scores as the Conquerors improved 3-1, 2-0 in Class 2A, Region 7. Antron Mostella returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

LOCUST FORK 47, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 43: Weather delays and a lot of scoring made for a long night as Westbrook fell to 2-1 overall, 2-1 in Class 3A, Region 6.

Westbrook’s Brody Blevins rushed for 273 yards and four touchdowns and completed seven of 12 passes for 47 yards. Brodey Wood rushed 90 yards and a touchdown, and the Warriors rushed for 386 yards and six touchdowns overall.

Lccust Fork is 4-0, 2-0.
