ALEXANDRIA: The Valley Cubs beat Jacksonville 25-23, 27-25 and White Plains 25-20, 13-25, 25-17, 25-21.
Earlier Wednesday, Calhoun County coaches voted the Alexandria the top seed of the county tournament, set for Oct. 5 & 7 at Alexandria and Jax State. The Valley Cubs finished the day 5-0 against county competition, and No. 2 seed Oxford’s lone county loss was a five-set match against Alexandria.
“I feel like we’ve been here before, but it’s just a seed,” Alexandria coach Whitney Welch said. “We’re excited o have it, but at the end of the day, it don’t mean one thing.
“I’m proud we are the one, and I guess we should be. We haven’t lost any in-county matches. We played the real close one with Oxford, but I think we have a long ways to go, and we have to keep trying to keep getting better.”
