Oxford’s defense clamps down on Pinson Valley in fourth quarter. Phillips leads Jacksonville girls to two victories.

PINSON — Oxford’s held Pinson Valley to four fourth-quarter points and won 51-46 on the road Saturday.
Jaylen Alexander scored seven of Oxford’s nine fourth-quarter points and finished with a team-high 17 for the game.
Marcus Perry added 16 points, and Jayden Lewis added 12 as Oxford improved to 3-0.
Girls
JACKSONVILLE 57, SOUTHSIDE 38: Lexi Phillips scored a game-high 18 points, and Jacksonville’s girls improved to 2-1. She hit four of seven 3-point tries and five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Jayci Taylor added 13 points and four steals, and Neveah Nicholson added nine points.
Jacksonville’s victory followed up a 61-20 rout of Randolph County on Friday. Phillips led four Golden Eagles in double figures with 21 points, and Jacksonville got 12 apiece from Ontarriah Braxton, Nicholson and Taylor.
Phillips had 10 steals, and Mya Swain added nine.
